His approachable, patient manner allows him to connect with people of all backgrounds, making challenging activities accessible and enjoyable.
Born and raised in Western New York, Mitchell has always had a deep appreciation for the performing arts and vibrant community spaces. Now, based in New York City, he celebrates the very theater scene that inspired his career. Recently having worked on A Little Night Music (2024) and Company (2025) with the Brooklyn based company Theater 2020, his love for live performance infuses his own work. He keeps his approach fresh, enthusiastic, and deeply connected to the art form.
Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Music in Theory and History from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, where he studied piano, voice, conducting, and organ. He was awarded for his work in collaborative piano, chamber music, sight reading, and musicianship. His broad academic experience is complemented by proficiencies in industry-standard music technology platforms including Finale, Dorico, Sibelius, Logic Pro X, Qlab, and Mainstage.
Mitchell’s career has spanned across the country, most recently in Washington state music directing Walla Walla Summer Theater’s production of Little Shop of Horrors. He spent many years at Southern Utah University as their Music Director where he worked on dozens of productions, notably Into the Woods, Legally Blonde, Falsettos, A Year With Frog and Toad, and Mother Courage and Her Children. He was a member of SUU’s vocal coaching staff, alongside his work as a ballet pianist, incidental composer for straight plays such as The Tempest, and even recording artist during the beginning of the pandemic. In the two years working at the university overlapped with the pandemic, they recorded over 600 songs for the student body to continue their daily musical progress.
Now in NYC, Mitchell mixes all his passions and skills. He works as a recording artist, vocal coach, music director, and conductor at every level from beginner to Broadway. His ability to work at all levels is a boon to the creation process, as performers at every age should be equipped with the best experiences they can access, to further their own artistry and humanity.
What is it like to work with Mitchell?
My 11 year old daughter, took one lesson and is signed up for at least two, maybe three more. Wow. He had her riffing, belting, mixing, learning new rep! Mitchell really knows his stuff and can support you with the piano while you sing as well! I highly recommend it!!”
-Executive Artistic Director Walla Walla Summer Theater
Mitchell is a dynamic vocal coach who blends technique, style, and heart into every lesson. Working with him feels like having both a voice teacher and acting coach in one, guiding not just the notes but the story behind them. He helped me uncover hidden nuances in my latest audition piece and continues to expand my repertoire with selections that highlight my strengths. Every session is transformative, pushing me to grow as both a singer and performer.
